41 bands, 5 stages, 2 days, 1 storm and 1 exhausted (but happy) photographer pretty much sums up Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015 for me. A few months back I posted a blog with my favourite shots from Soundwave Festival Melbourne, now it’s Sydney’s turn.
Soundwave Festival week is always a massive one for any music photographer, but it’s so much fun – not just shooting all the bands, but running into other photographers, meeting the fans and getting to discover so many other great bands that I didn’t already know.
It’s always so hard to decide which bands to shoot at a festival like this, and when there’s 73 bands on the lineup, the only way to pick is through a process of elimination. I was shooting for a metal website, so once I highlighted all the metal bands on the timetable I went back and fit in as many other bands as I could in the gaps, even if it meant only shooting one song and running to the next stage.
My highlights to shoot in Sydney were Ministry, Faith No More, Lamb Of God, New Found Glory, Killer Be Killed, Crossfaith, Slash and Smashing Pumpkins (joined on stage by Marilyn Manson for Ava Adore at the end – the perfect way to close a festival).
Here’s some of my favourite shots of both the music and the scenery, and you can view more over on my Flickr. All photos shot with my Nikon D800 or D7000, and a 70-200mm f2.8 or 14-24mm f2.8.
