St Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2016

Last weekend I photographed St Jerome’s Laneway Festival for the sixth year in a row, for The AU Review. One of my current favourite bands Chvrches were playing (I also shot them at Laneway in 2014), and I finally got to see Purity Ring live after hearing so many great things about them. My favourite new discoveries were Health, Fidlar, DIIV and Metz. There were alot of clashes on the timetable this year, and the Very West Stage was almost one kilometre away from two of the other stages, so it made shooting as many bands as possible a bit …

Sugar Mountain Festival 2016

Last week I photographed Sugar Mountain Festival, a fantastic music and art festival held at the Victorian College Of The Arts in Melbourne. Not only do they have a great selection of musicians each year, but my favourite part of the festival is the art installations they have throughout the venue, all of which are really impressive. Here are some of my favourite shots from the day, and you can view more on my Flickr. All images were shot on my Nikon D800.

Highlights Of 2015

2015 was a pretty good year for gigs, here’s some quick stats: • I photographed 149 bands, at 18 different venues in Melbourne and Sydney • 100 of these were bands I had never shot before • I attended 36 gigs, 27 of these I photographed • I photographed 7 festivals (4 of these were music festivals) • Tour of the year for me: Smashing Pumpkins I think 2015 will always be remembered (for me anyway) as the year that Soundwave Festival ended. It was always the highlight of my year, and honestly I’m pretty upset that I don’t have …

Australian Tattoo And Body Art Expo 2015

Last week I photographed the Australian Tattoo and Body Art Expo in Melbourne. It was my first time shooting a tattoo event – I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a lot of fun wandering around and checking out all the tattoo artists and their work, they were all so talented. Here’s a few of my favourite shots. All images were shot on my Nikon D800, and you can view more over on my Flickr.

Loon Lake ‘The Final Wave’ Tour 2015

A few weeks ago I was invited to photograph Loon Lake’s farewell gig at the Corner Hotel for their ‘Final Wave’ tour. It was a crazy night filled with crowd surfing, confetti, balloons, booze – and even a wedding proposal between two fans! It was a really special night that I had the opportunity to capture – here are some of my favourite shots from the gig. All images were shot with my Nikon D800 or D7000, and a 70-200mm f2.8 or 14-24mm f2.8.

PAX Aus 2015

Last weekend I photographed PAX Australia for the second year in a row at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for The Iris. Here’s some of my favourite shots of some of the attendees – there was even a little dog at the show! All images were shot on my Nikon D800, and you can view more over on my Flickr. You can also check out my shots from PAX Aus 2014 here.

Garbage Australian Tour 2013

One of my favourite bands Garbage are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Self-Titled album ‘Garbage’, and I thought this would be a good time to take a look back over some of my favourite images from their ‘Not Your Kind Of People’ Australian tour from 2013. Special thanks to Faster Louder and Beat Magazine for getting me the photo passes to these gigs. It turned out to be a very eventful week! All images were shot on my Nikon D7000, and you can view more over on my Flickr. If you scroll to the end there’s also a little story about meeting the …

Veri Live: Snap Feature

I was recently contacted by Veri Live magazine to be ‘Snap’ featured photographer for their final print issue out this month. I was asked to submit ten music related images, with the only rules being that they must be in black and white and cannot be cropped. My copy arrived on Friday and I couldn’t be happier with the final product – it looks fantastic and and the packaging is really special. I would like to thank Zo for selecting me to be featured – I really admire her talent, hard work and dedication to Veri Live and live music photography. The …

365 Fuji Instax Project

From 2009-2013 I kept a 365 Project photo journal on Flickr, where I took one photo every day for one year. After four years (2009-2012) of shooting this project in digital I was getting bored and struggling for ideas, so in 2013 I decided to change it up and shoot my 365 Project all on a Fuji Instax Wide camera. I thought this would be a fun challenge, and the only rule I gave myself (besides exclusively shooting with this camera) was that if I took a photo and it turned out badly, I still had to use it. This forced me to learn …

Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015

41 bands, 5 stages, 2 days, 1 storm and 1 exhausted (but happy) photographer pretty much sums up Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015 for me. A few months back I posted a blog with my favourite shots from Soundwave Festival Melbourne, now it’s Sydney’s turn. Soundwave Festival week is always a massive one for any music photographer, but it’s so much fun – not just shooting all the bands, but running into other photographers, meeting the fans and getting to discover so many other great bands that I didn’t already know. It’s always so hard to decide which bands to shoot at …
