Ziggy Alberts – Festival Hall, Melbourne 2019

In February I was invited to photograph Ziggy Alberts’ sold out show at Festival Hall for the end of his Laps Around The Sun tour. Ziggy is an energetic and engaging performer, with his lyrics including powerful messages about life, love, and his passion for the environment. This was a truly enjoyable concert to photograph.

Garbage Australian Tour 2016

It’s been one year since I was following one of my favourite bands Garbage on tour for the second time. The first time was in 2013 (you can read about it here), and it was on of the best weeks of my life. Their ‘Strange Little Birds’ tour here last year falls into the same category for me. I managed to get photo passes for three out of the four shows I was attending, which I was pretty happy with. They were touring for A Day On The Green around Australia with The Temper Trap, The Preatures, Tash Sultana and …

Groovin The Moo Bendigo 2017

A few weeks ago I photographed Groovin The Moo festival in Bendigo for Music Junkee. It was my first time back shooting the festival since 2013 and the fashion has definitely changed since then. No more groups of friends in animal onesies, but plenty of groups of friends in minimal clothing, despite it being about 6 degrees by the time the festival ended. They had some great bands on the bill this year, including Against Me!, Amy Shark, George Maple and Violent Soho. All photos were shot with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 or 70-200mm f2.8 lenses. If you’d like …

Sugar Mountain Festival 2017

This year’s Sugar Mountain Festival at Victorian College Of The Arts was probably their best yet. The music was excellent, but this year they really stepped it up in the arts category with the stage design, art installations and Sensory Restaurant experience. All photos were shot with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 or 70-200mm f2.8 lenses. If you’d like to see more you can view them on my Flickr.     The most impressive part of Sugar Mountain this year by far was the Sensory Restaurant experience which combined food, sound and visuals. This year’s list of collaborators were ‘Stranger Things’ soundtrack writers …

Smashing Pumpkins Australian Tour 2015

Last year I wrote about my previous experiences of following Smashing Pumpkins on tour, just before they toured Australia again for Soundwave Festival. Anyone who has photographed (or even just attended) Soundwave before knows how exhausting it is, and once it was all over I spent a good few weeks recovering from the craziness. Over the last few weeks my Facebook feed has been filled with Soundwave memories from photographers and fans, and it’s making me so appreciative for the incredible memories the festival gave me. In late February 2015, I spent a week following Smashing Pumpkins on tour again and shooting their gigs: …

Highlights Of 2015

2015 was a pretty good year for gigs, here’s some quick stats: • I photographed 149 bands, at 18 different venues in Melbourne and Sydney • 100 of these were bands I had never shot before • I attended 36 gigs, 27 of these I photographed • I photographed 7 festivals (4 of these were music festivals) • Tour of the year for me: Smashing Pumpkins I think 2015 will always be remembered (for me anyway) as the year that Soundwave Festival ended. It was always the highlight of my year, and honestly I’m pretty upset that I don’t have …

Garbage Australian Tour 2013

One of my favourite bands Garbage are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Self-Titled album ‘Garbage’, and I thought this would be a good time to take a look back over some of my favourite images from their ‘Not Your Kind Of People’ Australian tour from 2013. Special thanks to Faster Louder and Beat Magazine for getting me the photo passes to these gigs. It turned out to be a very eventful week! All images were shot on my Nikon D7000, and you can view more over on my Flickr. If you scroll to the end there’s also a little story about meeting the …

Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015

41 bands, 5 stages, 2 days, 1 storm and 1 exhausted (but happy) photographer pretty much sums up Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015 for me. A few months back I posted a blog with my favourite shots from Soundwave Festival Melbourne, now it’s Sydney’s turn. Soundwave Festival week is always a massive one for any music photographer, but it’s so much fun – not just shooting all the bands, but running into other photographers, meeting the fans and getting to discover so many other great bands that I didn’t already know. It’s always so hard to decide which bands to shoot at …

Soundwave Festival Melbourne 2015

Soundwave Festival is over for another year (so sad!), and this year I photographed both the Melbourne and Sydney legs of the festival. This year it was spread over two days, meaning that bands could play longer sets, and as a photographer it was alot easier to cover the insane amount of bands on the bill. In two days I shot 37 bands over five different stages – it was sweaty, exhausting, but as always it was amazing. My highlights to shoot were Marilyn Manson (there’s a fascination with his image that makes him so interesting to photograph), Steel Panther (these …
