Ziggy Alberts – Festival Hall, Melbourne 2019

In February I was invited to photograph Ziggy Alberts’ sold out show at Festival Hall for the end of his Laps Around The Sun tour. Ziggy is an energetic and engaging performer, with his lyrics including powerful messages about life, love, and his passion for the environment. This was a truly enjoyable concert to photograph.

Exhibition: Satellite Gallery, Melbourne 2019

Last month I was involved in a group photography exhibition with some extremely talented music photographers that I’m lucky enough to shoot with in Melbourne. We each contributed four pieces to the exhibition, held at the Satellite Gallery above The Old Bar in Fitzroy. The contributing photographers were: Lewis Nixon Jaz Meadows Kylie Carns Nate Hill Cath Connell Below are the images I included in the show, some of my favourites at the moment from the past few years. Here are some photos from opening night:

Good Things Festival Melbourne 2018

The first instalment of Australia’s newest rock festival Good Things kicked off in Melbourne in early December at the Flemington Racecourse (forever remembered as the home of Big Day Out – RIP). The line up of 90s/2000s rock bands (The Offspring, Stone Sour, The Used, Bullet For My Valentine, Tonight Alive) combined with the 38 degree weather really did feel like we’d been transported back to a smaller Big Day Out festival. The night before the festival I discovered via Instagram that one of my idols, Tony Kanal from No Doubt, was on tour with The Offspring. The opportunity to see Tony live …

Download Festival Melbourne 2018

Australia’s first Download Festival back in March filled the hole that Soundwave Festival left behind when it ended in 2015 (or at least came close), with bands like Korn, Sabaton, Arch Enemy, Prophets Of Rage, and some unexpected ones like Limp Bizkit and Good Charlotte. It felt more like 1998 than 2018. Shot for Metal Obsession, here’s some of my favourite photos, and you can view more over on my Flickr.

Garbage Australian Tour 2016

It’s been one year since I was following one of my favourite bands Garbage on tour for the second time. The first time was in 2013 (you can read about it here), and it was on of the best weeks of my life. Their ‘Strange Little Birds’ tour here last year falls into the same category for me. I managed to get photo passes for three out of the four shows I was attending, which I was pretty happy with. They were touring for A Day On The Green around Australia with The Temper Trap, The Preatures, Tash Sultana and …

PAX 2017 Cosplay

Another year of shooting PAX Aus for The Iris, and the cosplay this year was bigger and better than ever. Here’s a selection of my favourites.

Oz Comic-Con Melbourne 2017

Last weekend I was back shooting Oz Comic-Con for The Iris (you can check out their review here). Here’s some of my favourite cosplay shots from the event, including the fantastic entries for Oz Comic-Con’s Champions Of Cosplay. All photos were shot with my Nikon D810 & D800, with 14-24mm f2.8, 35mm f1.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 lenses.

Laneway Festival 2017

Back in January I photographed St Jerome’s Laneway Festival at the Footscray Community Arts Centre for my seventh year in a row. I was there to mainly shoot the event production for Architects Of Entertainment, but still made time to shoot some bands – some of the stand out performances were Camp Cope (my current favourite), Aurora, Gang Of Youths and Tame Impala. Looking back through all these shots now is making me long for the next Australian summer festival season to hit! All photos shot with my Nikon D800 and D810, with 70-200mm f2.8 and 14-24mm f2.8 lenses.   …

Groovin The Moo Bendigo 2017

A few weeks ago I photographed Groovin The Moo festival in Bendigo for Music Junkee. It was my first time back shooting the festival since 2013 and the fashion has definitely changed since then. No more groups of friends in animal onesies, but plenty of groups of friends in minimal clothing, despite it being about 6 degrees by the time the festival ended. They had some great bands on the bill this year, including Against Me!, Amy Shark, George Maple and Violent Soho. All photos were shot with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 or 70-200mm f2.8 lenses. If you’d like …

Sugar Mountain Festival 2017

This year’s Sugar Mountain Festival at Victorian College Of The Arts was probably their best yet. The music was excellent, but this year they really stepped it up in the arts category with the stage design, art installations and Sensory Restaurant experience. All photos were shot with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 or 70-200mm f2.8 lenses. If you’d like to see more you can view them on my Flickr.     The most impressive part of Sugar Mountain this year by far was the Sensory Restaurant experience which combined food, sound and visuals. This year’s list of collaborators were ‘Stranger Things’ soundtrack writers …
