Smashing Pumpkins Australian Tour 2015

Last year I wrote about my previous experiences of following Smashing Pumpkins on tour, just before they toured Australia again for Soundwave Festival. Anyone who has photographed (or even just attended) Soundwave before knows how exhausting it is, and once it was all over I spent a good few weeks recovering from the craziness. Over the last few weeks my Facebook feed has been filled with Soundwave memories from photographers and fans, and it’s making me so appreciative for the incredible memories the festival gave me. In late February 2015, I spent a week following Smashing Pumpkins on tour again and shooting their gigs: …

Highlights Of 2015

2015 was a pretty good year for gigs, here’s some quick stats: • I photographed 149 bands, at 18 different venues in Melbourne and Sydney • 100 of these were bands I had never shot before • I attended 36 gigs, 27 of these I photographed • I photographed 7 festivals (4 of these were music festivals) • Tour of the year for me: Smashing Pumpkins I think 2015 will always be remembered (for me anyway) as the year that Soundwave Festival ended. It was always the highlight of my year, and honestly I’m pretty upset that I don’t have …

Garbage Australian Tour 2013

One of my favourite bands Garbage are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Self-Titled album ‘Garbage’, and I thought this would be a good time to take a look back over some of my favourite images from their ‘Not Your Kind Of People’ Australian tour from 2013. Special thanks to Faster Louder and Beat Magazine for getting me the photo passes to these gigs. It turned out to be a very eventful week! All images were shot on my Nikon D7000, and you can view more over on my Flickr. If you scroll to the end there’s also a little story about meeting the …

Veri Live: Snap Feature

I was recently contacted by Veri Live magazine to be ‘Snap’ featured photographer for their final print issue out this month. I was asked to submit ten music related images, with the only rules being that they must be in black and white and cannot be cropped. My copy arrived on Friday and I couldn’t be happier with the final product – it looks fantastic and and the packaging is really special. I would like to thank Zo for selecting me to be featured – I really admire her talent, hard work and dedication to Veri Live and live music photography. The …

Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015

41 bands, 5 stages, 2 days, 1 storm and 1 exhausted (but happy) photographer pretty much sums up Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015 for me. A few months back I posted a blog with my favourite shots from Soundwave Festival Melbourne, now it’s Sydney’s turn. Soundwave Festival week is always a massive one for any music photographer, but it’s so much fun – not just shooting all the bands, but running into other photographers, meeting the fans and getting to discover so many other great bands that I didn’t already know. It’s always so hard to decide which bands to shoot at …

Soundwave Festival Melbourne 2015

Soundwave Festival is over for another year (so sad!), and this year I photographed both the Melbourne and Sydney legs of the festival. This year it was spread over two days, meaning that bands could play longer sets, and as a photographer it was alot easier to cover the insane amount of bands on the bill. In two days I shot 37 bands over five different stages – it was sweaty, exhausting, but as always it was amazing. My highlights to shoot were Marilyn Manson (there’s a fascination with his image that makes him so interesting to photograph), Steel Panther (these …

Placebo Australian Tour Diary

One of my favourite bands is Placebo, and when it was announced in 2013 that they would be doing the Soundwave tour again for their new album Loud Like Love, I knew I had to follow them on tour and photograph it. My friend Dave and I decided to fly to Sydney for their Soundwave sideshow, and I would try to photograph Soundwave in Sydney purely just as another chance to see them. So I flew up on a Saturday night, crashed at a friend’s house, and headed out to shoot a ridiculous amount of bands, just waiting for 3:00pm …

Soundwave Festival Round One: Sydney 2014

This year I flew to Sydney to shoot Soundwave Festival for Metal Obsession, and it was pretty epic. I ended up shooting 28 bands on the day (almost double what I would shoot for other single day festivals). Thankfully because I knew I would be shooting the Melbourne leg, and this one I was shooting for a metal website, it made it a bit easier to plan my timetable. In other words, shoot as many heavy/metal bands on the bill that I could, and leave all the others for Melbourne. There were a few exceptions to this though such as …
